The world of Motenia has never been blessed with lasting peace. Every child grows up knowing the stories of fierce battles and ravaging war. None was greater than Ragnarok, the age-old struggle for power between the noble god Odin and his bitter rival, the evil Loki. Ragnarok was neither the first nor the last battle that Motenia would host, but it was the one that sealed the gods in their realms and left humanity to salvage what remained of the earth.
We are the blessed, the lucky ones who reside now in a peaceful city raised by the power of the Magnetos. The years of study and work to create our Atlantis are all owed to the archmage Muto. Creating our beautiful home took every bit of his knowledge and power, and he still has yet to completely recover. Now he waits for one who will be able to take Atlantis safely into the future.
Fully aware of the history of bloodshed in Motenia, Prince Roan the Valiant stepped forward, vowing to protect Atlantis until he breathed his last. He knew that his might alone could not protect Atlantis from the outside world, and so he called on the newly formed Enchantresses, whose powerful Rhythma magic could help him cross worlds. Together, they traveled to the Gilded Isle of the Fey, hoping to win an ally to help protect his beloved city.
The Prince had only ever heard of the Empress of the Fey in legends. Ancient tales told that her beauty was matched only by her cunning, and she was every bit as graceful as she was deadly. Roan learned upon meeting her that every word of those legends were true. Empress Alice in turn found great compassion in her heart for the selfless Prince's crusade against evil, and the two fell into a love the likes of which the world had not yet seen. Together, they banded their forces and set out to combat the evil that threatened to invade Atlantis. Empress Alice swore her Rangers to their cause; living embodiments of the deadly accuracy of the very bows and arrows their wielded. With the strength of their fierce new alliance they returned home, confident that they could defeat whatever darkness might come.
They were sadly mistaken. Upon their return to Atlantis, Roan and Alice found that the evil legions of Loki had returned. Even banded together as they were, they still proved to be no match for the evil power of Loki's army. Pushed back to the city walls, Roan saw his men fall by the hundreds and Alice's Rangers crumble against the invading force. Within moments the city he vowed to protect would be overrun and, with it, the woman who meant everything to him. In a manic act of desperation, Prince Roan raised his hand to the sky and begged the Gods for help.
There came from the sky a great bolt of dark lightning, a bolt of pure shadow that enveloped the Prince whole. Darkness spread like mist from the Prince, and in the shadows a single form moved, darting this way and that as it wreaked carnage. When the shade cleared, the Prince finally awoke from his berserk rage to find that he'd destroyed both the enemy's armies and his own... and his love Alice was nowhere to be found.
Broken and distraught, the Prince raised his bloody hand to find it had been horribly mutated into a demonic claw. Contorted by the God's Fel energy, he had become the first Duelist. When the last ounce of grief dripped from his eyes, he arose to see that, despite the carnage, he had gotten what he'd asked for. He was strong beyond belief and Atlantis was safe... for now. Still, there was duty to be done. Vengeance would have to wait. The forces loyal to Loki would not stop until he was revived. And as Atlantis was the last human bastion, their return would only be a matter of time.
A great war was brewing... and this time, Roan was determined not to lose.
